Taft junior pitcher Alyssa Rangel produced in the circle and at the dish last week and has been voted Express-News Athlete of the Week. Rangel was named the Express-News softball player of the week Monday after she led the Raiders to five-inning, run-rule victories over Warren and Stevens last week. Rangel went 5-for-7 with four doubles over the two games, and she struck out 18 batters in the circle.
He also pitched a complete game shutout in a 10-0 victory over Madison and was named baseball player of the week. A pair of track stars were the other two finalists for Athlete of the Week: Randolph senior Austin Young and Reagan senior Mackenzie Dagrosa. Young won four gold medals at the District 26-3A championships, including individual victories in the boys long jump and 200 meters . Young also ran legs on the Ro-Hawks' winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
