We chat with SympathyfortheDevil director Yuval Adler & producer Allan_Ungar about the new Nicolas Cage thriller, crafting a lower-scale LED Volume, and more:

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Nicolas Cage is a carjacker with a secret agenda in Sympathy for the Devil. The thriller centers on an expecting father whose trip to the hospital for his child's birth is upended when a mysterious carjacker forces him to drive to an unknown destination in the Nevada desert, resulting in a tense game of cat and mouse between them.

Yuval Adler: My journey with the film started many years ago. It's actually a funny story, after I made my first film, Bethlehem, 10 years ago, I had this moment in Hollywood where they send you 10,000 scripts, and I was reading scripts, and they're all horrible. [Chuckles] So, you read 10,000, garbage scripts, and suddenly, I read two scripts that are great. One is a horror film, and one is this script, and it was like, 2014, Grant.

Yuval Adler: Yeah, the privilege of this film was that there's so few locations and so few looks, so in a way, there's three or actually four looks. One is the driving look, and the driving is actually only — if I asked you off your head how much you think the film is driving, people typically say more, even at the script level, "Oh, it's 60 percent." But it's only like a third.

We were able to crank out like 10 pages like that [snaps], we were able to turn things around, and then even if we ran out of time one night, and we missed a shot, or we needed to pick it up, we would actually — here's a fun one. I don't know if Yuval has pulled this one yet, but in the police sequence — obviously [it's a bit of a] spoiler, whoever's gonna watch this [interview] has already seen the movie, so it's fine.

This stuff, it was like, "Great, let's go." [Chuckles] Then, we started talking about Milton, and I put lines of Milton in the script, int the trailer, you have a line from Milton, I don't know if you noticed. But it started like that, this excitement that there is this other dimension to this.
