Listen up Canadian entrepreneurs, the advice is delicious
For 20 years, I ate little fat. During that time, I did 11 Ironmans, I had two kids, a stressful separation, a stressful job as VP of marketing and CMO for a chunk of it, paying a mortgage and I’m not eating fats. I had blood pressure and IBS issues and my doctor suggested medication. Turns out I just needed healthy fats. So I started a brand with “fat” in the name of it to do my part to bring the truth about fat back.
My daughter is 23 and she and the current generation is probably not seeing the same glass ceiling that I experience because we’re so much more respectful and value diversity. But the old boys’ network is still real today. A lot of angel investors are people who’ve done well in their career and their retiring. They wanna give back, they start funds, they invest in funds and they disproportionately are older CIS, white men. I’m very grateful, we’ve raised $30 million. But I’m in the minority.
If you’re going to launch a brand, ensure that the gross margin is in there. No investor is going to touch a new brand that doesn’t have a good gross margin .This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.There are incubator programs. Not that many in Canada, but there are some. First thing is to figure out your four Ps and if you don’t have that expertise, you need to get folks to help you.
