A K-9 with a Dauphin County police department is hanging up the leash.Rex retired after serving with the Lower Paxton Township police for eight and a half years. He will now live with his handler, Cpl. Chad Miller.The German Shepherd has taken part in hundreds of searches for drugs, firearms and suspects.Most recently, Rex helped search for convicted killer Danilo Cavalcante, who was captured two weeks after he escaped from the Chester County Prison.

Officers said Rex was also instrumental in catching four men who robbed an Ulta Beauty store in September. The suspects led police on a car chase until they lost control and tried to run – only to be stopped by Rex.
