The school district's board voted Monday night to formally re-establish itself as the Susquehanna Indians, albeit with a new logo.
The new logo concept for Susquehanna Township School District, as created by school board president John Dietrich and approved by a majority vote on July 11, 2022 .The Susquehanna Township school board voted Monday night to reinstate the Indians as the school’s mascot, albeit in title only, with new imagery that will forego an actual depiction of a Native American.
“I don’t think that one of our board members should take it upon himself to do this,” said board member Jesse Rawls Sr. “We did have a plan, it came to the board, and got voted down, so you can’t say we didn’t have a plan,” Rawls said. “I just want to see us get back to essentially the starting gate from where we were two years ago,” Dietrich said.
“I don’t see the use of the name as being at all disrespectful as long as you’re not disrespectful with it,” Dietrich said.
