A Monday morning blaze destroyed the courthouse in Golden, BC, leaving one firefighter injured. The fire has been deemed suspicious.
Around 3:30 a.m., a fire alarm was activated at the Golden Law Courts and Service B.C. building in the mountain town 265 kilometres west of Calgary, said RCMP Const. “It is being deemed suspicious, certainly, though investigators still were not able to get in there yet.”At least five hours after the blaze was first detected, flames were leaping from the structure.“There was no indication of anyone having been inside the building, or any other injuries having been sustained,” added Grandy.Grandy said the loss of the courthouse will deal a blow to justice system logistics.
“There are lots of people employed there and it’s not a small courthouse, though I don’t know how many cases it handles,” he said. The building, which houses B.C.’s provincial court, wasn’t in use on Monday but was expected to hear cases later in the week.
