12-year-old hospitalized after shooting in Lake Highlands, reports say

Police have named a suspect in the Wednesday night shooting in Lake Highlands that left a 13-year-old in critical condition. Just before 8 p.m., officers responded to the 8400 block of Ellery Drive in the Hamilton Park neighborhood near U.S. 75 and Interstate 635 and found the child with a gunshot wound, police said. The victim — who has not been publicly identified because they are a juvenile — was taken to the hospital.
Police said Thursday morning that they obtained an arrest warrant for Randy Edwards, 53, on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. “The investigation is ongoing but detectives do not believe the shooting was random,” a police spokesperson said in an email. “The suspect and victim were known to one another.”
