Andre Walker, 50, was responsible for last year’s biggest, single-suspect property crime spree in the police division’s busy Fourth District.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland man accused of 16 break-ins and theft crimes in Slavic Village last year, including several at a Catholic school, was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison.in the police division’s busy Fourth District.
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Santoli sentenced Walker to one year for each count, ordering that five of the sentences run consecutively. Walker was accused of breaking into several businesses, including Roses Express, Save-a-Lot and AutoZone, and fleeing with various items, beginning early last year. The pattern culminated last summer, when St. Stanislaus School, a K-8 mainstay in the neighborhood, was broken into six times, causing $38,000 in losses and property damage, according to the school’s principal.
The Slavic Village crime spree coincided with a property crime surge across the city last year. Though violent crime in Cleveland dropped in 2022 after a pandemic-era spike, property crimes shot up by 17.6%, police reported.
