Suspect arrested after jewelry stolen from Oak Bay store in brazen daytime theft
Victoria police arrested a jewelry-robbery suspect Thursday after he crashed his bike into their vehicle.
Police said a man entered Good Things Consignments on Oak Bay Avenue just before 5 p.m. and stole several pieces of jewelry valued at up to $19,000 before fleeing. Store manager Terri Battersby said the man came in and began looking around before going behind a display case and pulling a hammer out of a shopping bag.“It was loud, so everybody in the store was quite taken aback as to what was going in,” Battersby said. “He just put his hand in and started grabbing.”
One employee reached for his arm and prevented him taking more items, said Battersby, who called 911.The man didn’t say anything while he was inside, she said. “He kept his head down and he knew exactly what he was doing.This is the first time anything like this has happened in the 30 years the store has been operating, Battersby said.Battersby said she heard the man had ridden his bike as far as Hillside Avenue before he ran into the police vehicle. “So he was moving pretty quickly.
