We soon discovered that “The function of government is not to grant rights, but to protect our unalienable rights of life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness.” Notice how magnanimously the “right to property” is granted. Let’s not forget, Thomas Jefferson owned over 600 slaves, more than any other U.S. president, and even he did not include “property” in his trinity of God-given rights.
Addressing immigration, the platform states, “We support suspending automatic citizenship to children born to illegal immigrant parents” thus, dismantling the 14th Amendment. Republicans could kill two birds with one stone, by simply stating. “We strongly oppose abortions, except in cases of ill-conceived immigrant babies.”
Surprisingly, the platform addresses “Ethics and Standards”: “We demand honesty, integrity, morality, and accountability of our public officials. We will work to expose and stop corruption.” Looking back to the Stormy, quid pro quo, hydroxychloroquine, Bible-touting, Captain Moroni, Trump days, the hypocrisy of these standards is laughable, as are the many ethical violations within the Utah Republican party.
