Website by former and current students alleges more than 50 sexual assaults happened between 2015-2019
The RCMP is looking into allegations of historical sexual assaults at Université Sainte-Anne in Church Point, Digby County and seeking anyone who was a survivor of an assault, or who has information, to come forward.
A ‘Who Are We?’ section says those behind the website are a group of Université Sainte-Anne students – past, former and graduates – who have been victimized and/or are tired by, and outraged over, instances of sexual assault and harassment that have not been treated seriously. Provincial RCMP spokesperson Corporal Chris Marshall said on Sept. 8, “We don’t have any information at this point beyond what is on the public website. This is why we issued the media release.”
The website alleges from 2018 to the end of 2019, one perpetrator sexually assaulted at least 17 students and it claims that information about this individual was reported to the university “several times” but was not acted on and students were not warned about the person. • and, ensure the inclusion of qualified, trauma-informed professionals in the sexual-assaults hearing process, from elsewhere and via weblink if necessaryIn a statement to Saltwire, Université Sainte-Anne said the sexual assault allegations are very concerning and something it is taking very seriously.
