Stanford sex assault victim reveals her identity
It's what many wondered about the anonymous woman Brock Turner sexually assaulted in 2015 after her 7,000-word victim impact statement went viral, sparking outrage and declaring to a nation swollen with survivors that they were not alone.
Early Wednesday morning, the New York Times reported the survivor who wrote the 12 pages of gut-wrenching eloquence is Chanel Miller.In her memoir out this September,"Know My Name," Miller will"reclaim the story of her sexual assault," publisher Viking Books said in a press release in June. Turner was convicted of assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated/unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person. He faced up to 14 years in prison but was sentenced to six months in county jail. He served just three for"good behavior."
One in 5 U.S. women is raped at some point in their lives and 1 in 3 is a victim of sexual violence involving physical contact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
