People do not feel safe using parks in Glasgow after daylight hours, a survey has found

The council has committed to providing some lighting in parks and work is being carried out to decide where and how it should be done.

The survey focused on three parks: Kelvingrove Park in the west, Queen’s Park in the south, and Cranhill Park in the east.In Cranhill, only 4% said they felt safe after dark while 60% said they felt unsafe. And in Kelvingrove, 8% said they felt safe and 68% felt unsafe.Scottish Water pays for Ibrox Christmas tree after major repair works

It is likely that it will be 2024 before lighting is installed after plans are finalised, costing worked out and funding secured before construction work can begin. “The evidence we committed to gather in relation to the three parks involved in a pilot programme will now help inform a series of workshops that will consider a range of technical issues in much more detail.
