The YYCMatters survey was available through a Community Voices portal online and received responses from 564 participants. “It’s important for us to keep listening to the people of Calgary,” Chris Arthurs, general manager of People, Innovation and Collaboration Services with the city, said in a news release. “The Community Voices tool has provided a method for the people of our city to tell us, in real time and in their own words, what matters to them.”Tracking research in 2022 found that transit users are increasingly concerned about safety — especially at night — and 76 per cent of Calgarians say concern for safety is or would be a consideration when looking to use public transit.
When it comes to the safety and vibrancy of Calgary’s downtown, a separate survey on citizen perspective found that only 35 per cent of people who live outside of downtown would feel safe walking downtown alone after dark, while nine per cent of people say they would feel “very” safe.Article content One of the participants of the survey said a priority is community safety, saying “crime is rampant” in the inner-city community in which they reside.Recommended from Editorial
