Breaking: Supreme Court Justice Russell Brown calls allegation of drunken behaviour 'demonstrably false'

In a statement issued by his lawyers, Brown, a Supreme Court of Canada judge, publicly addressed the allegations that are the basis of a complaint to the Canadian Judicial Council after the Vancouver Sun reported an American man has accused him of drunken “obnoxious” behaviour that led to police being called. No charges were laid against either man, according to the newspaper report.

In the interview with the Sun, Crump said that he briefly left the table, and his friends who remained invited the judge to join them. He alleges that when he returned, Brown was boasting of his importance, read from his speech earlier, and followed them back to their room. That’s when the Sun says Crump claims he confronted Brown, told him he was drunk and “creeping out” the group, prompting Brown to shove him, and Crump to punch Brown in the face twice, knocking him to the ground.

He says he will fight the allegations, and hopes that the review now underway will quickly resolve the disparities between the two versions of events. “While we were talking, Mr. Crump, who had evidently accompanied this group to the lounge, returned to their table. I did not speak or otherwise engage with him,” the statement said.
