A marvelous Mister Mxyzptlk mock-up!
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT There are few characters who pose as much of an inherent threat to Superman than the chaotic imp Mister Mxyzptlk, and a new piece of fan art has given him the perfect costume. This new design not only captures the spirit of Mxy’s original look, but also features a clever secret that’s in keeping with the self-sabotaging nature of the villain.
Artist Mike Becker has created an incredible piece of fan art featuring both Mister Mxyzptlk and fellow fifth dimensional characters Bat-Mite and Larry. Taking Mxy’s primary colors of orange and purple as a baseline, Becker has created an amazing new costume in the artist's own style, with the purple and silver pieces of Mxy’s armor subtly spelling out the villain’s name. Meanwhile, Becker’s Bat-Mite and Larry have more literal inspirations, with Bat-Mite sporting bat-fangs and Larry transformed into Robin’s avian namesake.
The fifth dimension is one of DC’s most fun concepts. Originally just a home for Mxy and his ilk, the concept has evolved over the years. The dimension itself is usually amorphous, with its geometry shifting in response to its occupants. There’s a good reason for this: as retconned in Batman #680 by Grant Morrison, Tony S. Daniel, Sandu Florea, Guy Major, and Randy Gentile, the fifth dimension is actually imagination itself.
Mister Mxyzptlk Shows How Much People Still Love the Golden Age Interestingly, Mister Mxyzptlk has remained a particularly popular character over the years. With his appearance and gimmicky powers, it’s easy to imagine a world where he remained a relic of Golden Age comics. However, Mxy has persisted in spite of comics becoming less outwardly goofy and more serious over the decades.
