Superman's variety of superpowers benefit him every day, but one power has consistently been a major weakness, as show in a new Action Comics preview.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Superman has just about every power a hero could possibly need, such as super speed, flight, x-ray vision, super strength, heat vision, cold breath, and super hearing. All of these powers have proven to be immensely useful to Superman over the years, but only one has consistently been turned on the Man of Steel as a major weakness.
Superman has had decades on Earth to master the use of his powers, and he shows this advantage in full when he is attacked by a supervillain mimicking his powers in a preview for Action Comics #1058 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Rafa Sandoval, Matt Herms, and Dave Sharpe. While they seem like an even match at first, Superman is able to push the supervillain to focus on his super hearing, which completely overwhelms and disables him for a moment. Since the villain isn't used to hearing everything on the planet, once he noticed he could, he was completely unable to shut it off. Check out the full preview for Action Comics #1058 below.
Superman's hearing can be deadly, as seen several times across DC history. While Superman's powers going out of control aren't anything new for the character, it's only super hearing that has consistently been shown as a problem. When Superman lost control of his heat vision in Tower of Babel it was treated as more or less an annoyance for him to deal with.
Batman Exploits Superman's Hearing If someone isn't used to super hearing, it can be turned against them easily — meaning that super hearing will always be Superman's biggest vulnerability despite the massive list of powers that he has. It took Superman years to master tuning out white noise and being able to dial his hearing in; without this training, super hearing isn't a power — it's just a weakness.
