A sunrise ceremony will take place atop Anemki Wajiw at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning to open the day of festivities.

National Aboriginal Day was first announced in 1996, but it was in 2017 that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that day would be renamed National Indigenous Peoples Day. Celebrations, education and gatherings have significantly increased since then and continue to grow. After the sunrise ceremony, opening ceremonies begin at noon, with the Grand Entry at 1 p.m. and a feast starting at 5 p.m.

For those interested in viewing the sunrise ceremony, a shuttle bus will be available to bring everyone up the mountain. to limit the number of vehicles in the area.
