The brilliant watfordfc victory over Luton on Sunday cannot simply be a one-off highlight says androofrench

As it was, I had to make do with my own few seconds of unbridled joy before returning to typing the live blog – although I have to confess I was finding it hard to type as my hands were quite literally shaking with the adrenaline coursing through me thanks to the performance the boys in yellow gave.

Luton had, it has to be said, been on a very good run. Unbeaten in seven, four victories, an away win at Norwich and having beaten leaders QPR at Kenilworth Road. That’s understandable of course. Last year was a disaster and performances at home were dire. This season hasn’t been a whole lot better despite being a division lower, and those who travelled to Millwall, Blackpool and Blackburn may still feel the team owe them a bit more still.

I’m confident, I have belief, I’m passionate. But I’ve also followed Watford for long enough to know that life is never simple. However, even I was satisfied that a three-goal margin with half an hour to go against a shell-shocked Luton team meant it was pretty much game over. Because as much as Sunday was magnificent beyond realistic expectations, it will count for diddly squat if what Watford serve up at Wigan tomorrow is akin to what they cobbled together at Millwall, Blackpool and Blackburn.
