Lifeguard attacked by shark Sunday morning in waters off Smith Point Beach in Suffolk County speaks exclusively to ThaliaPerezTV about the ordeal.
It happened at Smith Point Beach, where CBS2's Thalia Perez says officials have temporarily shut the beach down.It was a typical beautiful morning on the beach. Zachari Gallo says at around 10:15 a.m. he was participating in a training exercise with fellow lifeguards and was attacked by a shark.
Gallo shared photos with CBS2 and said he was bit on the hand and chest. Even with those injuries, he said he wrestled with the shark. Gallo said he was treated and released from Southside Hospital, receiving stitches in his chest. Immediately following the attack, the beach was shut down to swimmers, but despite the warnings some still swam at their own risk.
Meanwhile, Gallo said he's grateful to be home recovering with his wife and 4-month-old, who happened to be dressed Sunday in a Baby Shark outfit. He offered everyone some solid advice.
