Environment Canada has extended the heat warning and City of Greater Sudbury responds by providing areas where citizens can go to cool off for a while
With Environment Canada extending the heat warning in the Sudbury area, the City of Greater Sudbury has activiated the municipal Hot Weather Response Plan.
A news release from city hall said there are a number of options available to help residents beat the heat. This includes cooling centres being offered at municipal library branches, as follows: • Capreol Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.• Dowling Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.• Levack / Onaping Public Library: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.• New Sudbury Public Library: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.• Valley East Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Other recreational facilities will be open during their regular hours. For locations and hours of operation, visit www.greatersudbury.ca/play/recreational-facilities.The City’s splash pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit www.greatersudbury.ca/splashpads for locations. Splash pads are unsupervised water play areas, and parents/guardians must supervise their children at all times.City and community outreach teams will provide support to homeless and vulnerable populations as part of their regular outreach program, including providing water and transportation to services as needed.
The outdoor drinking water fountain is open at Memorial Park and a water refill station is available outside the Sudbury Community Arena.Public Health Sudbury & Districts offers information on beating the heat in apartment buildings, keeping your children and pets safe, and doing outdoor activities in heat and smog.
