Rain in the forecast through today should bring some relief
Possibly thanks to the rain, there are no new fires to report in the North as of Sunday evening. But the Sudbury 17 fire, burning near Massey remains out of control and still growing.
Fire crews in that area are conducting suppression work and trying as much as possible to protect property. The following areas must be evacuated immediately: the Townships of; Olinyk, Plourde , Prescott, Redden , Strain, Teasdale, Poncet, Lehman, Lockeyer, Gerow and Gaiashik, unless authorized by a travel permit issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Up to a dozen large fires are currently not yet under control, including Kirkland Lake 5 at 2,300 hectares, Timmins 7 at 149 hectares, Cochrane 7 at 10,395 hectares, Cochrane 6 at 1,239 hectares, Cochrane 5 at 11 hectares, Hearst 5 at 90 hectares, Sudbury 19 at 435 hectares, Sudbury 17 at 5,277 hectares, Sudbury 10 at 1,082 hectares, Chapleau 6 at 1,228 hectares, and Chapleau 3 at 3,916 hectares.
