The contract still has to be shared with union members, who will vote whether or not to ratify it.
In the meantime, 20,000 Ford employees will return to work to restart production at the Kentucky Truck Plant, Michigan Assembly Plant and Chicago Assembly Plant.
Although UAW members won’t see the full details until Sunday, Ford employee Ramona Jocys, 56, said she’s optimistic. Jocys has worked at Ford for more than three decades and was among the“For months we’ve said that record profits mean record contracts. And UAW family, our Stand Up strike has delivered,” UAW President Shawn Fain said.. Since the strike began, Ford put 50% more on the table than when we walked out.
The lowest-paid workers at Ford will see a raise of more than 150% over the life of the agreement, with some workers receiving an immediate 85% increase upon ratification, according to the UAW. Although traditional defined-benefit pension plans did not come back, the union says the tentative agreement improves retirement for current retirees, those workers with pensions, and those who have 401 plans. It also includes a historic right to strike over plant closures, a first for the union.“There is a lot riding on these negotiations,” she said. “We are in a fierce competition with the rest of the world for the future of manufacturing – and all eyes are on Michigan.
