Mark Ruston, 43, who works in a bank, said:"It's a bit annoying having to wait now, my train's now delayed, it's frustrating. RMT's general secretary Mick Lynch is still optimistic this morning, despite saying the offer being put to his members is"completely inadequate". Asked why that offer wasn't good enough for RMT, Mr Lynch said:"We've got eight or nine times their membership, and they're not affected by the changes that Network Rail wishes to make. "But our members have a completely different set of terms and conditions inherited from the private sector, which doesn't really affect them.

She added that this year has seen"the longest squeeze on real wages for a very long period" and the industrial action reflects"an appalling failure" by the government.
