Ireland Kay posted two goals to lead Sterling to a key Colonial Conference win over West Deptford
The goal that Sterling allowed in the first half was fairly uncharacteristic of them. After sophomore Anna Cardie nearly converted a goal in the 34th minute, a failed clearance led to the ball being in possession of Michaela Kerr, who scored on a high arching shot that just barely got past the hands of Sims to tie the game at 1-1.
Simpson’s goal was the spark they needed to finally start finishing on the chances they missed out on in the first half. Sterling would go on to score three unanswered goals in the second half to propel themselves to a 5-2 victory over West Deptford in a key Colonial Conference Liberty Division clash in West Deptford.
“A big credit to Ireland because she finished with two goals with great placement and she worked off the ball and joined the attack,” Kay added. “That was huge. We needed that from her.” Kay, Draham, Troilo and company have done a great job making up for the lost production of Dickson, who registered 19 goals and five assists last season. The three players have combined for 22 of Sterling’s 30 goals this season.
