The Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games have officially kicked off in Grand Falls-Windsor.
One of the athletes is Michael Budden of Stephenville, who competes in skiing. As well, Budden served as the flag-bearer for this year’s games. Budden has been competing for several years, beginning when he was in grade 8 as part of the Special Olympic team. About four years ago he began branching out and competing in provincial, national, and world-level competitions.
He says he is curious about how everything will play out, but believes it will be an amazing experience. Beyond the winter games, Budden already has his sights set on his next challenge. He and teammate Samantha Walsh will be representing Team Canada in the athletics competition in Germany.Marie, Michael and Les Budden
