Stars goalie Braden Holtby, forward Denis Gurianov enter NHL COVID protocols | MDeFranks
Dallas returned to the ice last week after 17 days off due to their own COVID issues and the NHL’s winter break.
Gurianov and Holtby were not among the 11 Stars players who tested positive for the coronavirus over Christmas break, an outbreak that forced the postponement of three additional games. When the Stars resumed their schedule Thursday against Florida, they had no players in COVID-19 protocol. Bowness said the Stars would recall Anton Khudobin from AHL affiliate Texas, likely to serve as Oettinger’s backup. Khudobin could also earn a start on the road since the Stars play the Panthers and Lightning on back-to-back nights.
Gurianov, meanwhile, was playing the best hockey of his season. He had two goals and four assists in his previous four games and seemed to find a home on the second line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Gurianov was skating well, winning races to pucks and generating scoring chances.Tanner Kero was in Gurianov’s place during Tuesday’s practice, skating alongside Benn and Seguin. Kero has not played since Dec. 18 against Chicago, when he was hit by Brett Connolly.
