Star Wars has just revealed why Darth Vader's Inquisitors were so effective - their armor is actually lightsaber-resistant. What's going on?
Darth Vader's Inquisitors have always been a force to be reckoned with, but Star Wars has just made them even more dangerous. Emperor Palpatine rightly understood the Jedi were the only threat to his reign. Only a handful of Jedi were still alive after Order 66, but those survivors included some of the most powerful and experienced Force-users. This led the Emperor to swiftly establish a group known as the Inquisitors, who operated under Darth Vader's personal command.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Darth Vader and his Inquisitors have been major villains in many different mediums. The Inquisitors aren't really a match for a Jedi Master such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but they are a force to be reckoned with when they go up against Padawans whose masters saved them from Order 66. They were particularly potent villains in Jedi: Fallen Order, where they served as major enemies ahead of the big boss fight against Darth Vader.
The Secret Of The Inquisitors' Armor Likely Lies In Beskar Or Cortosis This, naturally, raises the question of just how an Inquisitors' armor can resist a lightsaber blade. Mandalorians' beskar armor can stop a lightsaber, although its ability to do so depends on the purity of the beskar in question.
But it seems more likely the armor is composed of a substance called cortosis, a fragile material that nevertheless serves as an effective defense against lightsabers. Cortosis doesn't just resist a lightsaber, it actually disrupts it slightly, leaving the blade weaker. Cortosis is a critical lightsaber weakness, and according to canon sourcebooks it has often been woven on to armor in just this kind of way.
