Stampeders offence goes stagnant in Week 1 loss to visiting Lions yyc
It’s way too early to overreact. The Stamps had only won two of their previous six season openers heading into Thursday’s game, so the defeat is by no means a death sentence.The Stamps only got into the endzone once, when Tre Odoms-Dukes caught a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Jake Maier was not nearly as dynamic as you’d have liked him to be. He completed only 19-of-35 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing an interception. The Stamps’ much talked-about run-game wasn’t great, either, with Ka’Deem Carey only winding up with 42 rushing yards on seven attempts and Peyton Logan picking up 34 himself.
Their job wasn’t made easy by an offensive line that was missing Zack Williams, but there will be questions about the protection provided by tackles D’Antne Demery and Hugh Thornton.“It wasn’t a clean game at all,” Maier said. “There were just a couple plays we didn’t make. I loved the way we fought at the end, I loved the rhythm we got at the end, it was just too late. We got into rhythm too late, but at this point, we lost, we didn’t play all that great, we’ve got a game in six or seven days.
