The Fighting Irish won their second straight title and fourth in the last six years. Joyce has led the program to seven. Senior guard Sencire Harris bobbed his head with a towel around it, soaking in the achievement. A 6-foot-5 senior guard who is headed to Illinois next season, Harris scored 17 points with seven assists in his final high school game.
To Harris, those first two games of the season are when STVM set the tone for this state-title run. The defending champs drew respect, even from Gilmour , which opted as the third-overall seed in the Northeast District tournaments to take a tougher path early that led to second-seeded Buchtel rather than face the Irish in the regional rounds.“We didn’t get quite past the peak of the mountain,” Gilmour coach Dan DeCrane said.
