It’s likely just a precaution for both players, especially with the Blues out of the playoff race and the team down to their final games of the season. Thomas has taken a slight step back from his breakout season in 2021-22, but was still quite productive with 17 goals, 46 assists, and 63 points in 70 games. His goal totals are still relatively normal, but his assist rates have gone down a bit due to the drop-off in offense from the Blues as a team and the lack of passing options for Thomas.
