While speaking at a masterclass in Locarno, controversial director Harmony Korine categorically shuts down rumors of a possible Spring Breakers 2.

The 2012 movie, which was written and directed by cinema provocateur Harmony Korine, followed a group of college students who rob a diner to fund a spring break trip and fall in with wannabe rapper Alien , kicking off a crime spree.
Per Variety, Harmony Korine recently spoke at a masterclass in Locarno. While sharing some tidbits about the making of Spring Breakers, he revealed that he had heard recent rumors of a potential Spring Breakers 2. However, he categorically shut down the idea, saying that the movie is "one and done" and he hopes a sequel doesn't happen.
However, that isn't to say that Korine isn't a commercial filmmaker. He has, quite literally, directed commercials for brands including Gucci and Dior as well as music videos for artists such as Rihanna, Sonic Youth, and Cat Power. Spring Breakers was also a solid hit for A24, making $31.7 million off its $5 million budget and more or less instantly earning a reputation as a cult classic.
However, because of this, it makes sense that he wouldn't want Spring Breakers to get a sequel, even if he doesn't make it. A comparable cult classic, 1995's Showgirls, did eventually receive a sequel in 2011's Showgirls 2: Penny's from Heaven, which was written and directed by Showgirls actor Rena Riffel, but that movie was quickly forgotten and failed to gain any sort of notoriety.
