International breastfeeding week: Furniture for new moms

World Breastfeeding Week started in 1992 to generate public awareness. It’s an initiative backed by the World Health Organization, UNICEF and multiple Ministries of Health to spread the word about the many advantages nursing offers moms and babies. This year, it takes place from August 1st to 7th, 2023.

Being able to raise your upper body so you can sit up comfortably in bed helps with nursing and bonding; it ensures your upper body is well-positioned and your spine is in proper alignment. An especially great feature, particularly for new moms, is the motion-sensor under-bed lighting—as soon as you get out of bed, the floor will be softly illuminated, which is definitely helpful during late night feedings and changes.

The Calderon Ottoman is a tufted, sandstone-coloured piece done in a mid-century style. The textured chenille upholstery rivals the softness of your favourite blanket and feels great to use. It’s quite stylish too, with exposed black metal legs and a chevron pattern on the fabric. Firm but comfortable, it will hold up well to everyday use.The key to managing all of those late night, middle-of-the-night and early morning feedings is to have everything you might need within arm’s reach.

If you aren’t in need of drawers, at least arrange to have a surface nearby where you can place a glass of water to help you stay hydrated . The Dorrinson Chairside End Table is a two-toned gray and antiqued white side table done in a modern farmhouse design. It has a two USB charging ports, a fixed lower shelf and a power cord, making it a real multitasker.
