The flights will travel to the U.S. from Colombia, Panama, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Aruba.

Spirit Airlines CEO and president Ted Christie said,"I sincerely thank our Spirit family, our airport partners and our government officials for working with us to reunite people around the Americas with their families," according to CBS Miami.

Throughout the pandemic, social distancing has become one of the most important measures to stop the virus' spread, and Spirit Airlines has thought of ways to enforce these measures on its humanitarian flights, such as blocking off the middle seat in each row. The airline will also follow guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help ensure the safety of all passengers.

The novel coronavirus, which causes the respiratory disease COVID-19, originated in Wuhan, China, continues to spread across the globe, with the U.S. now the pandemic's epicenter. According to a Johns Hopkins University tracker, there are over 614,000 cases in the U.S. and at least 27,085 deaths.
