We chat with SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse stars shameikmoore, Hailee Steinfeld & Jake Johnson about how Miles Morales, Peter Parker & Gwen Stacy have changed since IntoTheSpiderVerse:
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse finally hits theaters next week, marking Miles Morales' first big screen appearance since 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Voiced by Shameik Moore, Miles is a New York teenager who idolized Spider-Man, then gained his powers after his untimely death and was mentored by a different Earth's Peter Parker . The sequel sees both heroes return, as well as Gwen Stacy and several new Spiders from countless universes.
Shameik Moore: How did he evolve from the first film to the second film? First film, he was trying to figure it out. Taking that leap of faith was a big part of that first film, believing he was Spider-Man and accepting it. Hailee, how about your character? Does the evolution of Gwen change your approach to the character the second time around?
The evolution in the first one [is that] Peter didn't want to be a mentor. Then, in getting to know Miles, he saw the beauty in that position and saw the beauty in the next evolution and another way of doing it. I think what he learned from Miles was, “Maybe there's a whole thing to fatherhood. Maybe there's some real greatness in what's to come,” rather than just the way it was.
