We chat with SchoolSpirits stars Spencer MacPherson & Rainbow Wedell about the mystery surrounding their new paramountplus series, their characters' motivations, and what sets the paranormal show apart:
School Spirits begins directly after the death of Maddie Nears, painting every character as a suspect in her disappearance. Now available to stream on Paramount+, the series approaches its mystery from a unique point of view. While Maddie's friends and family look for any clues that may lead to her whereabouts, Maddie watches as a ghost from the other side, determined to bring her murderer to justice.
Spencer MacPherson: Xavier is a very tough guy to read. That's something that we really wanted to get across. You can't really get a good read on him and that adds to the suspicion [for] the audience, as well as the characters in the world. He seems a little guilty. I think he's a guy that's going through a lot of grief and feels very guilty. Throughout the season, he'll, hopefully, find some sort of path towards redemption.
Rainbow Wedell: And I think that Claire does really care for Xavier and wants to help as much as she can. He's struggling, and it's hard for her to watch. What do you each think is really going to set this series apart from other murder mystery and supernatural shows that have previously been done?
