Farmers across southern Alberta have had to rejig plans for the rest of irrigation season to accommodate lower allocations of water, but “have been fairly understanding” about it, Westwood said. Farmers are welcome to redistribute water shares as they please, whether that means using it to grow other crops or share any excess with other irrigators in need. “Most I’ve spoken to feel that they’ve been able to plan out the rest of the year and make it work,” he said.
