South32's base metals production up 17% in FY23 due to higher copper output South32
- Globally diversified mining group South32 reported Monday that in the June 2023 quarter, its copper equivalent production increased by 9% q-o-q, underpinned by a return to stable operations following adverse weather and other temporary impacts in the prior quarter.
However, alumina production declined by 4% to 5,101 kt in FY23 due to temporary outages in the June 2023 quarter. South32 said that both refineries have returned to nameplate production rates and FY24 guidance is unchanged. Illawarra Metallurgical Coal achieved revised FY23 production guidance, with improved longwall performance delivering a 21% increase in metallurgical coal production in the June 2023 quarter.

Former Blue Jays Rolen, McGriff inducted into Baseball Hall of FameFormer Blue Jays Scott Rolen and Fred McGriff were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame Sunday. Rolen batted .281 with 316 homers and 1,287 RBIs in over 17 seasons and helped the 2006 Cardinals win the World Series. Meanwhile, McGriff hit .284 with 493 homers and 1,550 RBIs over 19 seasons and won a World Series with the 1995 Braves. Both played a few seasons in Toronto in their careers.
