On May 12, Alaina Ritter's family decided to donate her organs after she suddenly passed away on May 9.
As people continue mourning Alaina’s loss, her family is encouraging everyone to learn about the lifesaving impacts of organ donation .DONALSONVILLE, Ga. - An 8-year-old South Georgia girl is now a hero after giving the gift of life to other children on Mother’s Day.
On May 6, Alaina’s health started to suddenly deteriorate when she started having what seemed like a cold. But on May 9, doctors say she passed away from bacterial meningitis. Her mom then made the brave decision to donate Alaina’s organs on a day they would have spent together as mother and daughter.
Brittany Bowen, Alaina’s teacher, said she is more than proud to know Alaina will live on through a saved life. Right now, Alaina’s Donor Life Flag is hanging up outside of Seminole County Elementary School where she attended school. She was in the 2nd grade.
