South Alabama offensive lineman Dontae Lucas was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after a Jaguars touchdown late in the third quarter Saturday in Statesboro, Ga. He was ejected after officials said he spit on a Georgia Southern player.
South Alabama offensive lineman Dontae Lucas has been suspended for Saturday’s game vs. Texas State after an incident that resulted in his ejection from the Jaguars’ 38-31 victory over Georgia Southern, head coach Kane Wommack said Monday.
Lucas’ penalty was one of 13 committed by the Jaguars on Saturday, and one of three for unsportsmanlike conduct. Wommack said Lucas’ actions went beyond simple overaggressiveness, and thus warranted a suspension. “Accountability is a huge piece of why we are in the position we are in and why we’ve seen the growth that we have. Those things are never fun to do and it will hurt our football team, but I think everybody in this program needs to be aware of that, that there are consequences to the decisions that you make.”
