Two shots of the COVID vaccine produced by Pfizer PFE, +4.59% and BioNTech BNTX, +7.97% may offer 70% protection against hospitalizations due to the omicron variant, a South African study showed Tuesday, Bloomberg reported. The study was released by Discovery Ltd.
, the country's biggest health-insurance provider, which also found that Pfizer shots were 33% effective against the newly discovered variant. The study looked at clinical and vaccination records and lab tests in examining 78,000 COVID-19 test results for infections of that strain from Nov. 15 to Dec. 7.
