Published: Oct. 06, 2023, 11:15 a.m.More than 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills are being considered in state legislatures, including Pennsylvania. Our community is facing an existential threat from misinformation driven by bigotry. Despite efforts by lawmakers to broaden protections for the LGBTQIA+ community, several bills will create division and support mistreatment and crimes against individuals who are of the community.
Lawmakers aren’t helping at all as they continue to promote bills that ostracize those who identify as LGBTQIA+. Whether enacted or not, this sort of legislation pushes harmful narratives onto our children. They will grow up spewing the same rhetoric, developing a cycle of hate. The internet provides a venue for members of our community to express who they are, link with others and access potentially life-saving resources. At a time when our liberties and identities are under attack, the internet is a more valuable resource than ever.
