Some hospitals are suspending the use of pain-relieving gas and air for mothers in labour due to concerns for medical staff. A number of NHS Trusts have temporarily halted the use of gas and air because staff are being exposed to harmful levels in the workplace - 50 times over safe levels in some NHS units.spoke to Amy Fantis, who is due to have her baby at the Princess Alexandra hospital in Essex, which suspended use of the Entonox gas last month.
She added: “Please be reassured that there is no risk to mothers, birthing people, their partners and babies. The use of Entonox was temporarily suspended to protect our midwifery and medical teams from prolonged exposure to nitrous oxide in the atmosphere arising from the patient use of gas and air."
