She tried to play ball, was denied, fought for the right to play ball and won. And in less time than it took for her to win that battle she had to quit the team.The baseball team at Wheatley High School was about to practice, and Linda was on the field with her friends.

That was a hassle.Linda began playing baseball when she was seven, but she wasn’t allowed to play on a Little League team. At 14, she finally got to play Pony League, where she was the only girl, but then ran into the roadblock in high school.
The oldest child in her family, Linda could compete in most sports, even with boys. Back then, she was described as a tomboy.
