Soccer legend will kick-off opening of the city’s Christine Sinclair Community Centre on Sept. 9.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, the City of Burnaby is inviting community members for the official "kick-off" of the Christine Sinclair Community Centre — filled with plenty of free, family-friendly events.The dedication event at 3713 Kensington Ave. will feature face painting, music, food trucks, family activities and a jamboree headlined by the Burnaby FC from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Born and raised in Burnaby, the now 40-year-old started playing soccer when she was just two and went on to be one of the most successful soccer player to ever compete for Canada. Sinclair holds the record for the most goals in international play with 190 and is one of very few players to have achieved more than 300 international games.
"Christine Sinclair is not just the greatest Canadian soccer player of all time, she is a role model for our youth and an ambassador who has helped raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis research, and we are so proud to have the opportunity to name an outstanding community facility in her honour."
