Diversity and social justice themes prevail in eight books from the official at St. Paul’s Episcopal School.
Hey, kids! Summer’s here, and you know what that means: It’s time to have fun!
Kiana Borjian, the librarian at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Oakland, has recommended some fun summer books for kids to read. “Maribel’s Year” by Michelle Sterling, illustrated by Sarah Gonzalez. “Michelle Sterling and Sarah Gonzalez give an intimate view into the life of a young girl in the U.S. and her father in the Philippines through poetry and beautiful illustrations.
“The Mermaid Princesses” by Maya Cameron-Gordon, illustrated by Mirelle Ortega. “Mermaids are all the rage, from the new ‘Little Mermaid’ movie to this exciting story from Bay Area author Maya Cameron-Gordon. “The Bug Boys” series by Laura Knetzger. “This charming graphic novel series is full of adventure, whimsy and humor. An endless supply of fun, I recommend this book for all ages for any time of year, but in particular this book is begging to be taken to the beach camping, and your favorite reading nook in the park or public library.”“Undercover Latina” by Aya de León. “Recommended by Aiden Thomas, author of ‘Cemetery Boys,’ this book will immediately have you hooked.
