Elon Musk reportedly taking steps toward building a town near Austin in Bastrop County
As construction continues on the facilities and modular home community — which now includes a pool and outdoor sports area and gym — signs hanging from poles read “welcome, snailbrook, tx, est 2021.” according to a story published Thursday in
. Snailbrook is apparently a reference to Boring Co. efforts to build tunneling machines at the site.Relying on deeds and other land records and interviews with people familiar with the project, the newspaper reported that Musk is planning to build his own town on part of thousands of acres of newly purchased pasture and farmland outside the Texas capital.
Boring Co. employees have reportedly described how Musk has plans to build an incorpoated city there, saying they discussed in a meeting last year how they would conduct an election for mayor. Musk also reportedly had meetings with his former girlfriend Grimes, a singer, as well as Kanye West and the rapper’s architectural designer last year to discuss how to build a town.With Starship practice countdown, SpaceX takes big step toward first orbital launch from South TexasHe moved Tesla’s main headquarters from Palto Alto, Calif., to the Austin area, where the company has built a $1 billion factory on 2,500 acres fronting the Texas Colorado River.
