The former Notre Dame coach is quickly finding out why it means more in SEC and LSU after...

LSU head coach Brian Kelly reacts during the second half of an NCAA football game against Florida State on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2022, in New Orleans. Being paid $100 million, then being expected to win a close football game against an unranked opponent in a nationally televised season opener inside the Superdome. We can debate another time whether Texas is part of the South or is just Texas.

Kelly then fell into a larger hole in real life when LSU couldn’t finish against the Seminoles in the Superdome. “We just have to learn how to play the game the right way,” Kelly said, seemingly forgetting the fact that LSU went 15-0 and won a national championship under true Tiger Ed Orgeron just three years ago.And that Nick Saban went 13-1 with a big Sugar Bowl win at LSU, before he started winning everything at Alabama.

You can get away with that at Notre Dame, where it’s annually understood that double-digit win seasons will peak with bowl game defeats and College Football Playoff embarrassments.Let’s just say that a $100 million coach isn’t allowed to say that his team still has to learn how to play the game the right way after the season has started.
