Skydiving instructor dies after parachute fails to open in Waller County

The jump involved a tandem dive Saturday afternoon with an instructor and a female student, who collided with the ground at high speed after both their primary and reserve chutes failed. The instructor later died, according to Skydive Houston.The student has serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the company.
“Skydive Houston, along with the greater skydiving community at large, is deeply saddened by the loss of our tandem instructor and friend,” the company said in a statement. “Our sincerest condolences are extended to his family and friends. We continue to pray for a full recovery for the inured tandem student.”
Skydive Houston’s jump operations have been suspended as local law enforcement and the Federal Aviation Administration investigate the fall.
