And it is all but certain \u002D with questions needing to be asked \u002D that Curtis Joseph will be passed over for the Hall once again.
The nominations are private so we never really know who doesn’t get voted in – only who does. And we don’t know who doesn’t get any push at all inside the board room of 18 voters. So it’s impossible to know whether Joseph has ever been seriously considered, what the tone of those conversations may have been, or whether his candidacy has ever been voted upon by the committee of former players, coaches, managers, and media.
But what about Joseph, who was so brilliant in St. Louis, in Edmonton, in Toronto, for the first 12 years of his 18-year career? Those weren’t great teams. They needed great goaltending to be competitive. They needed goalies to win games on occasion.Article content Joseph played only four seasons in Toronto although it seems, thinking back like it was so much more than that. The Leafs played in 10 playoff rounds in those four seasons. The Leafs have played in a total of 10 playoff rounds, over the past 22 years.Joseph had a 2.79 career goals against average, which seems high by Hall of Fame standards but not necessarily high considering the teams he played for. His career save percentage was .906, less than Lundqvist’s remarkable .918.
The only way to track Joseph – or any goalie who came before him – would be to individually watch every game he played in his career and do the math from there and then interpret the findings.
